TAIKANJI TEMPLE
Great Compassion Zen-Buddhist Temple
THE TAIKANJI TEMPLE
Zengetsuzan Taikanji means the "Mountain of the Zen Moon, Buddhist Temple of Great Compassion". It is located in the rural area of the municipality of Pedra Bela and it is approximately 150 km from the city of São Paulo.
The temple was settled by Monk Enjo in 2004 after he returned from his monastic training period in Japan and it was dedicated to Kannon (Avalokiteshvara in India, Green Tara in Tibet, Kuan in China), the Bodhisattva of Compassion.
At the Taikanji temple we follow the Tradition of Japan's Soto Zen School, as transmitted by the two great masters, Eihei Dogen Zenji and Keizan Jokin Zenji, respectively from the 13th and 14th centuries of our era.
Surrounded by an area of environmental protection, the areas formerly used as pastures are currently being recovered forming green corridors for the crossing and habitat of several wild animals.
Respecting nature's cycles, we perform organic farming of fruits and vegetables, composting, and we realize bioconstruction activities.
